Combine several PDFs into one file, or make a large PDF smaller so it’s easier to email and upload. Everything happens right in your browser. Your files are never uploaded to our servers, so private documents stay private.
How to merge PDF files
- Drop your PDF files into the box above, or click it to choose files from your computer or phone.
- Use the ↑ and ↓ buttons to put the files in the order you want. Click ✕ to remove one.
- Set Compression to None if you want to keep the original quality.
- Click Merge & download. Your combined PDF downloads as merged.pdf.
How to compress a PDF
- Add one PDF file (or several to merge and compress them together).
- Choose a compression level: Light keeps the most detail, Medium is a good balance, and Strong gives the smallest file.
- Click Compress & download. The tool shows the file size before and after.
Compression works best on scanned documents and PDFs with lots of photos, which can often shrink a lot. If a PDF is already small and mostly text, the tool keeps your original instead of making it bigger.
Compression turns pages into images, so text won't be selectable afterwards.

Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to merge PDFs online with this tool?
Yes. Unlike most online PDF tools, this one doesn’t send your files anywhere. The merging and compressing happen inside your web browser, on your own computer or phone. You can even check this yourself: open your browser’s developer tools and watch the Network tab while the tool works. No files are uploaded.
Is there a file size limit?
There’s no fixed limit. Because files are processed on your device, very large PDFs (hundreds of pages) depend on how much memory your device has. Computers handle large files more easily than phones.
Why can’t I select the text after compressing?
To make files much smaller, compression turns each page into an optimized image. The PDF looks the same, but text can no longer be selected or searched, and links stop working. If you need selectable text, set Compression to None and just merge.
Does merging reduce the quality of my PDFs?
No. With Compression set to None, pages are copied exactly as they are, with no loss of quality, and text stays selectable.
Can I merge password-protected PDFs?
Not yet. Remove the password from the PDF first (most PDF readers can save a copy without it), then add it to the tool.
Is the Tacetra PDF merger really free?
Yes, it’s completely free, with no ads, no sign-up, and no watermark on your files.
