Free Favicon Generator: ICO & PNG Icons

Make a favicon for your website from text, an emoji or your logo. Download everything in one ZIP: favicon.ico, PNGs in every size, an Apple touch icon, a web app manifest, and the code to paste into your site.

My Website

The ZIP has favicon.ico (16, 32, 48), PNGs from 16 to 512 px, apple-touch-icon.png and site.webmanifest.

On WordPress you can instead upload the 512 px PNG under Settings → General → Site Icon.

Runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent or saved.

How to create a favicon

  1. Type one to three letters or an emoji, or upload a square image of your logo.
  2. Choose the background color, shape (square, rounded or circle) and padding.
  3. Check the previews, including how it looks in a browser tab.
  4. Click Download all (.zip), upload the files to your website’s main folder, and paste the code into your site’s <head>.

What’s in the download

  • favicon.ico with 16, 32 and 48 px images inside, for every browser.
  • PNG icons at 16, 32, 48, 192 and 512 px.
  • apple-touch-icon.png at 180 px for iPhone and iPad home screens.
  • site.webmanifest so Android and Chrome can use your icon when people install your site.
  • The HTML code to add to your pages, also available to copy on screen.

Frequently asked questions

What size should a favicon be?

Browsers use 16 and 32 px in tabs, 180 px for Apple devices and 192 or 512 px for Android. The download includes all of them, so you don’t have to choose.

How do I add a favicon to WordPress?

The easiest way is Settings → General → Site Icon: upload the 512 px PNG and WordPress handles the rest.

Can I use an emoji as a favicon?

Yes. Type it in the text box and it’s drawn into every size. It’s a quick way to get a recognizable icon.

Why isn’t my new favicon showing?

Browsers cache favicons for a long time. Try a private window, or clear your browser cache.
